Irons

Irons are implemented for a wide variety of golf shots. More often than not, they are used for approach shots to the green, fairway shots on a long hole, and awkward shots that include shots from out of the rough, out from underneath or over trees, and out of hazards. Irons produce shorter shots than woods, but they have a far wider spectrum of uses, making them a highly versatile group of clubs. The lower the number of the iron, the less loft it will have and the longer the shaft will be. Irons with a greater loft than a nine iron are called wedges, but I'll get into that in a moment. The irons are classified by shaft length and range, whereas the one through four irons are considered long irons, the five through seven irons are considered the mid irons, and the eight through the wedges are considered the short irons. Long irons are typically used for low, straight distance shots or for hitting out of the rough, while short irons are typically used for approach shots and chip shots. Believe it or not, they’re even used for putting, but this is rare. A common configuration of irons will usually include a three through a nine iron, plus a pitching wedge and a sand wedge. with an abbreviated swing to accomplish the same end.
